Writing Center

This past Thursday I went to the writing center at study hall. My writing fellow was Emma Scott, a senior. Before I went to the writing center I was really nervous. I was scared that I wouldn't like my writing fellow.
The first thing we worked on was my introduction. She helped me add a couple of sentences and gave me ideas for more. Then we moved on to going into more detail about each quote. The final thing we fixed was my conclusion. She noticed that I had restated a lot, and told me how I could change it. Overall my experience at the writing center was amazing.

Cookies

The world would be a lot different if we used cookies as our currency. The whole world could finally use the same type of money. When you get hungry you could just eat your money. This would be a good type of currency for kids, but not with adults.
There are many reasons why this would be a horrible type of currency. The cookies would be very easy to break. If you accidentally sit on the cookie it would break, getting rid of some of your money. This would also be not a great choice of currency because people could easily make their own money. Overall the idea of cookies as a currency would probably not work.

Exam Studying

Its almost that time of school where we have to take midterms. This is the second most stressful time of the year right behind finals. When I eventually start studying Im going to wish I had started earlier. There are many different ways of studying suck as by yourself, with a friend, or with a group of people.
The most effective way to study for me is to study with a friend. When studying with a friend you are both trying to reach a similar goal. The second most effective way to study is to study by yourself. While studying by yourself you could quiz yourself, or just read over notes. For me the least effective way of studying is to study with a big group. I don't think this is very effective because it is hard to maintain control of the whole group. Overall I really am not ready to start midterms.

LOTF paper

So far the Lord of the Flies paper has been pretty hard to write. There are many contributing factors to why it is difficult. The first factor is that is very hard to find the quotes in the book, even if you know which quote you want. The second factor is that I find it pretty hard to write the quotations right, especially the quotes that are over 4 lines.
The hardest part about this paper is getting more than three pages. I had to spend an hour trying to figure out what else to add. After I eventually added enough words, I had to proof read my whole essay. Im glad I reread my paper though because I found multiple mistakes. Overall this paper has been pretty difficult to write.

Symbolism

Many young children were playing on the playground during recess. The teacher saw Nathan sliding down the slide with a big smile on his face. Next to Nathan was Michael, when the teacher took a closer look at Michael she saw him frowning and yelling at Nathan. Then there was Brayden and Garret, Who were both fighting because Brayden wouldn't give Garret one of his cookies, which made him cry.

Then, last but not least there was Jimmy. Every recess Jimmy would change personality. Some days he would give others his cookies, but then the next he would push someone down in the dirt. Jimmy shows that every little kid either chooses to be good or bad. Overall every kid gets to choose whether they want to be good or bad.

Nathan=Joy
Michael=hate
Brayden=Greed
Garret=sadness

How to Win a game of Soccer

In soccer there are lots of deciding factors to the final outcome to a game, so here are the main tips that will help you increase your chance of winning. First, you have to make sure that your defenders hold a strong back line. They should not be going up for the attack unless it's a corner or free kick. If the defenders did go to far forward then the other team would have a big space to run at. Another tip is to try to get your team to pass the ball around constantly. If there is one person just dribbling the ball around without passing it to the others, he will eventually get taken down, and your team losses possession. Working as a team guarantees chances to score and a great experience for everyone. The last tip is to have fun. If you aren't having fun in a game, then you might as well not play. You shouldn't be screaming at your teammates, but instead complementing them on the good things they do. All of these tips will help you and your team succeed in any game you will play.

These tips relate directly to how life should be lived. Being confident and courageous will get you more friends in life. If you aren't being yourself, people will start to notice it, and they won't want to hang out with you. That's where the defensive part comes in. The next tip, working as a team, If only one person worked on it, it would take a long time for them to finish. That relates to the working as a team tip because a person who just dribbles the ball wouldn't be able to always finish his amazing run if no one is giving him support. This is one of the most important tips to win a soccer game. The last tip is to have fun. If you follow these tips then you will have a lot higher chance of winning.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, for many reasons. The first reason why i love Thanksgiving is the great food we get to eat. Every year my family eats turkey, and it is super good! The second reason why I love Thanksgiving is because of the time we get off of school. This holiday gives us a whole week off, which is amazing.

My favorite part of Thanksgiving is all of my family coming to town. My cousin who is in college at LSU always comes over, and we have lots of fun together. When my Uncle comes over he always makes the best spaghetti. Also when he comes over he brings little bags that everyone opens, after we eat. Overall Thanksgiving is a great holiday!

LOTF

One of the most important scenes in the book is on page 89. It takes place while their is an assembly where everyone is discussing the beast. It starts when Simon says " maybe, maybe there is a beast." He also says " What I mean is maybe it is only us. What he says is very offending to most of the people in the scene.

This scene is important because it shows people's thoughts about the beast. Ralph and Piggy are very offended by his statement's, and wish he wouldn't have said it. Ralph and Piggy did not believe in the beast and took a logical approach and they thought  Simon would do the same. We also learn that Jack doesn't care about the beast and just wants to have fun on the island. This scene is one of the biggest foreshadowing moments. It shows that all the kids who follow Jack are like the Beast.

Prompt

Prompt: How would the world be different if there were time travel?

At first time travel was all fun and games. People would go back in time to relive exciting moments of their lives, or history classes would take field trips to visit the Berlin Wall or experience Martin Luther King Jr's " I had a dream" speech. Time travel was used in innocent ways, for entertainment and education. However, like all good things, some humans began to abuse it.

Similar to when terrorist organizations began to utilize Twitter to advertise their ideas, people began to abuse time traveling for their personal benefit. Much like all of the time travel movies, people would try to change history. However, if we learned anything from all of those sci-fi movies, history should not be messed with. Time travel also caused people to lose interest in the present. With the possibility of living in any moment of the past or present, very few people wanted to experience the now.

LOTF response

[Piggy:] "I don't agree with all Jack said, but with some.  'Course there isn't a beast in the forest.  How could there be?  What would a beast eat?"
"Pig."
"We eat pig."
"Piggy!"
"I got the conch!" said Piggy indignantly.  "Ralph--they ought to shut up, oughtn't they?  You shut up, you littluns!  What I mean is that I don't agree about this here fear.  Of course there isn't nothing to be afraid of in the forest.  Why--I been there myself!  You'll be talking about ghosts and such things next.  We know what goes on and if there's something wrong, there's someone to put it right."
He took off his glasses and blinked at them.  The sun had gone as if the light had been turned off. [...]
"Life," said Piggy expansively, "is scientific, that's what it is.  In a year or two when the war's over they'll be traveling to Mars and back.  I know there isn't no beast--not with claws and all that, I mean--but I know there isn't no fear either."
Piggy paused.
"Unless--"
Ralph moved restlessly.
"Unless what?"
"Unless we get frightened of people." (83-84)

This passage is very important because this foreshadows Simon's death. They talk about the beast, which has been a key part of this story. At the end, Piggy brings up that the beast might be human. When Simon is eventually killed, the hunters think he is the beast because they cant see very well because it was raining. Another reason why this is significant is because this is one of the last times all of the kids are together.

Free Reading

The book I am currently reading is American Sniper by Chris Kyle. Chris Kyle was a U.S. Navy SEAL and he is famous because the has the most career sniper kills in U.S. military history. He protected his fellow soldiers during the Iraq War.  He was tragically killed in 2013 and this was a great loss for the United States. In the book, Chris Kyle talks about his battlefield experiences and his wife, Taya, tells about how his career played a toll on their family. This book has also been made into a movie.
It is really fun to read this book. Sometimes when I am reading it, I actually feel like I am on the battlefield. Chris Kyle did an excellent job describing his day to day activities of protecting his fellow American warriors. This book really makes me think and makes me grateful for those that protect our country. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is looking for action and suspense.

Human Nature

I believe that humans are fundamentally good and loving. It is my belief that humans are born with no hate in them and that humans are flawed by situations that they are put in. Many of these situations are beyond their control while others are bad choices that individuals make. I also think that an individuals home environment has an influence on whether they remain good and loving. Family plays an important role in keeping humans free from doing hateful things and keeping them grounded as good people.

I came to the conclusion that humans are fundamentally good and loving because I have watched babies grow up. Babies come into this world happy and smiling with no hate for anything. They watch and learn from their parents and family. If a child grows up in a situation where they are exposed to bad things like drugs then, sometimes that child will turn to drugs. I believe that having a strong family and good home environment keeps humans good and loving.

San Diego, California

During Fall break my family and I went to San Diego, California.  We went there so that we could see the college that my sister will be going to. While we were there we stayed at a resort on the beach named Hotel Del Coronado. On the first day we were there, we went and toured University of San Diego. When we first got there, I was really surprised about how pretty it was. After we took a tour of the campus, we sat down in a meeting and learned about the college and it was very boring. Going on the tour of the campus made me really interested in going to this college.
The next day we went to Disney Land for a full day which was very fun. While we were there we rode lots of thrilling rides. My personal favorite ride was Grizzlies Peak. Grizzlies Peak is a big white water rapids ride where you get soaking wet. After riding it we decided to ride Splash Mountain.  However, when we finally got to it we figured out that it was closed for maintenance. Overall, this trip to San Diego was an amazing experience.  San Diego is an amazing city with beautiful beaches and great weather!

American Sniper

The book I am currently reading is American Sniper by Chris Kyle. This is a book about a man who joined the army. Chris Kyle had to go though a lot of tough training in order to get into the army. When he finally got into the army, he had to wait a very long time before his first deployment. When he finally got on his first deployment he was so pumped and went through many intense battles. After a few deployments, Chris Kyle started to become one of the greatest snipers in the infantry.
So far, this has been a very good book and it is action packed. I really enjoy how the author makes me feel like I am actually in the book. I also enjoy how this book makes me sit on the edge of my seat. I am glued to this book because it does not have single page in it that makes me want to put it down and leave. This book really makes me respect the soldiers of the United States of America.Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes action and suspense.

Should We Rebuild Louisiana

Should We Rebuild Louisiana by Zach Kopplin is an article that asks the question if we should rebuild Louisiana after the flood. During the flood in this past August, thirteen people died and others were seriously injured. This flood was one of the biggest devastations to ever happen to Louisiana. This flood didn't have any media attention before it happened. Kopplin says that many people woke up with water all over their floors. No one expected the flood in Louisiana and was a surprise to everyone.
A lot of people whos house was destroyed have already started to rebuild their house. Tons of people think that everyone should just abandon Louisiana and move somewhere else. I personally think that Louisiana should be rebuilt because of the history of the state. FEMA hasn't given a lot of money to people who have to rebuild, so many cant. People have been waiting for the government to help them, but nothing has happened. Overall I really think that Louisiana should be rebuilt.

Flood

After the flood in Louisiana my family and i decided to help out he community. Since our house did not flood we had lots of time to give a hand to the people who needed help. My family and I decided that we should go to the redress center to help, so at noon one day we went. What we did there helped a lot of people, we walked people around the area and the got to pick up supplies that they needed.
While we were there I walked three different families to get supplies. After we left the place I felt super good because I know i helped a lot of people. If an opportunity like this ever appears again I will surely help out. I really recommend helping out people if there is an opportunity because it will make you feel great. Overall that was an amazing day for me.

Book

The book I am currently reading is American Sniper by Chris Kyle. This book is about a soldier in the US army. This story takes place in Iraq and occasionally the US. While he is in Iraq he goes through many intense battles. So far this book has been very good.
The reason I really like this book is because of the non stop action. The author of this book does a great job of making you feel like you are in the battle. This book really makes you want to thank the soldiers who fight for our freedom. Overall this has been one of the best books I have read recently.

Different World

I woke up dazed and confused. I looked around, and it had looked like I woke up in the jungle. My arm felt like someone was squeezing it as hard as they could. I looked down to see my left arm, then I saw a triangular shaped piece of metal stuck in my arm. I immediately tried o pull it out, no luck, it seemed as if it was glued in. Then, I heard it, a large roar echoed across the land.
I got up and started walking around looking for someone. Then I saw something very large, I focused in, it was a dinosaur. When I saw it I panicked. I started to sprint the other direction, but then i realized that wasn't the only dinosaur in the area. I was Trapped, in a world filled of dinosaurs all by myself.

Reading Response

I am currently read the book American Sniper by Chris Kyle. this book is about a man from Texas who wants to be in the army. During their first deployment they get surrounded by a bunch of Terrorists. Right before they were going to be killed their reinforcements showed up and bailed them out of a tough situation. After this his group was sent home for about a month before their next deployment. During this off time a lot of soldiers have bad flashbacks about the war, but Chris did not have any.

So far for me this has been one of the best books I have ever read. This book is action packed, and also filled with a lot of detail. Chris Kyle does a great job of providing a lot of detail about the area they were, and the gun fights they fought. This book really shows how hard it is to serve in the military. All in all I really am enjoying this book so far.

Nap Time

Dear kindergartners, use your nap time wisely. Even though you may hate it today you are going to wish you use it later. Nap time is the only part of the school day where you get to just lay down and relax. When you finally get older you are going to remember all of the wasted nap times that you didn't use.

Now that I am in 9th grade and am looking back at nap time I really wish I would have used it because nowadays that's all I want to do. While it was nap time I use to think of it as time out because I was not having fun while laying down. I can only remember one time that I feel asleep during nap time and that day I slept for three hours, and when I woke up the rest of the class was reading a story.

Reading Book

For my reading book I am currently reading American Sniper by Chris Kyle. Where I am in the book is where they SEALs had just completed there first deployment. While they were there they thought they were going to die because they were surrounded by the enemy. Before the enemies could get to them the Marines showed up and bailed them out of a tough situation.

I have really enjoyed this book so far, because of the non stop action. This book makes you feel like you are in the army with the SEALs. It really brings to life all of the fights they were in. I really recommend this book to anyone who likes action and adventure.

September 9 2001

Everyone you meet would agree that 9/11 is one of the most tragic events that has ever happened to the U.S. My mom told me about what she was doing when the events happened. My mother was pregnant with me at the time and was cooking in the kitchen. She said that she had no idea what was going on until her best friend told her to turn on the news.

I recently watched a video of the attack that was recorded by a girl who was going to school at NYU at the time. In the video the girl sounds so scared of the event. After the event had happened she recorded herself talking about how the attack had affected the whole city. The attacks on the Twin Towers was truly a devastating event.

Outside Reading Book

The book i am currently reading is American Sniper by Chris Kyle. This book is about a man from Texas who always wanted to join the army. When he is old enough Chris Kyle signs up for the seals and has to go through Hell Week. So far this book has been really good and a great read.

The best part about this book is that it makes you feel like you are in the book. When he talks about Hell Week he uses very vivid details about what they had to do. Another great thing about this book is that it keeps you wondering if he is going to get on the SEALS and what is going to happen next. Overall I really recommend this book to anyone who likes fast paced books.

Tuesday, September 6, 2016

This past weekend my team and I went to Plano, Texas for a soccer tournament. In the fourth game I played center attacking mid. 8 minutes after the start of the second half my friend Elmer played a through ball to me and I took it around the goalkeeper and scored.

After I scored all the parents were yelling with excitement and jumping up and down. After I high-fived everyone on the team I was really pumped and didn't even feel tired. I came off the field about 5 minutes later because I got really tired. All of my teammates said great goal, and so did my coach. Overall this past weekend was very fun!

American Sniper

I am currently reading the book American Sniper by Chris Kyle. I am not very far into the boo, but so far it has been a great book. One thing I noticed is that the beginning of the book is a very slow start. The way Chris Kyle writes really makes you want to keep reading the book.

The plot of this i very interesting, because the main character is trying to become a SEAL and it shows you how hard it is to become one. My favorite thing about this book is once you get past the first part of it the action never stops. another thing I liked about this book was that it made you think you were the one in the story. Overall I really recommend this book to anyone.

Nationals

This past summer my soccer team and I qualified for nationals in Denver, Colorado. When my dad and I left for Denver I thought that some of my teammates would be on my flight, but none of them were. Since none of my teammates were on my flight it was very boring and felt like it took days to finish. When we finally got to Denver and checked into our room I noticed that there were tons of soccer players in out hotel. After i found some of my friends we all started to walk around the hotel and played Pokemon Go.

The next day was our first game and we ended up getting a tie 2-2. Since we had a second game later that day we weren't aloud to run around the hotel again. When we got to the fields and looked at the other team we got really scared because of how big the other kids were. We ended up losing that game 3-2. After that game we went to a pro soccer game and it was amazing. The last game we played we ended up losing 5-4. Overall that trip to Colorado was an amazing experience.

Go For The Goal! by Mia Hamm

One of the book's I read this summer was Go For The Goal by Mia Hamm. The reason I chose this book is because it is about one of the greatest women's soccer player ever, and I love to play soccer. As I was reading this book I kept wondering how Mia Hamm joined the Women's national team when she was only fifteen. When you are reading the book the author makes it seem like you can do anything you want to if you give it your all. While reading this book it really made me want to get up and play soccer because it made soccer sound so fun.

The one thing i didn't like about this book was that it said the same thing a couple of times. For instance once while I was reading the book it said that she was amazed that she made it on the national team at such a young age, but then a few pages later it said the same thing. One strategy I used while reading this book was I imagined it was a story about myself, so it made the book a lot more fun to read. The great thing about this book is that anyone can read it because even if you don't like soccer it is still really inspiring. Overall I really enjoyed reading this book over the break.
